I feel the wind hold me, pull me, seduce me,
Its caress is embracing, but not loving or warm.
I fight this concrete blanket, and battle on forward,
Step after step, after step after step.
So easy to stop, so easy to sleep,
Easy to fail and fall from my feet
It calls out my name and then whispers one word.
How easy it would be to turn round flee.

The snow is deep and the path is so steep
All I can do is think of my feet
So close to the snow and practically useless
They are held on my legs by pure osmosis
The chill in my bones will last forever.
No fire or whisky will warm me again.
Step after step, after step after step.
So easy to slip, so easy to sleep,
Easy to slide and die on my feet

My hands are numb from this relentless cold
Each glove, a coffin, holding dead fingers to wrists
No blood left in side them, I weep for my nails.
And to know in my heart they are twisted and useless.
So easy to drop, so easy to sleep,
Easy to fumble and fall from my feet

The air is thin and my nose is broken
The clouds part, the wind drops, now beaten
The summit, so close I could touch it and taste it.
The light from the sky washes my despair,
It fills my body with life and melts the ice in my hair.
Its warmth is a promise of things to come
Not always will I be cold not always in darkness
I dream of life, not found as a carcass
Step after step, after step after step
The end is in site and soon I can sleep
Soon to finish and be happy in the heat.
